With a total cost of works for the Pavilion, the Lodge and associated works at £1.57 million, the project was achieved through funding from the Lofthouse Foundation and Heritage Lottery. Wyre Council was the client. Special mentions in the awards were given to two other north-westbased projects: The Old Library, West Derby, Liverpool, involving the formation of a new nursery and community hub within a redundant former Grade II Carnegie Library (OMI Architects); and the Dome of Home, New Brighton, involving repairs and refurbishment of a 1930s Grade II listed church, the Catholic Shrine Church of Ss Peter and Paul and St Philomena (Kepczyk Pearce Sanderson Architects, Surveyors and Historic Building Consultants). Accounting for tastes The Grade II* listed Chartered Accountants Hall in the City of London represents the work of three architects over 80 years: John Belcher, John James Joass and WilliamWhitfield, ranging from 1890s neo-baroque to 1960s bushhammered concrete brutalism. Appointed to carry out repairs and refurbishment to the original Belcher wing (1890–93) in two phases, Donald Insall Associates has completed roof repairs, including the replacement of the outer glazed lantern of its dome, and have refurbished the two principal reception rooms. Centred under a high, glazed dome, the main reception room (originally the council chamber) extends into bold colonnaded apses to its east and west. The palatial room features large allegorical murals by the Scottish artist George Murray representing, among other subjects, ‘Science bringing order with scales and rule to Commerce’ and ‘The Triumph of Law’. The members room (formerly the library) features a playful Venetian-style bridge connecting the room’s balustraded galleries. The former library of the Chartered Accountants Hall is now a members’ room. The Old Council Chamber is a reception room.
