Civic Voice has highlighted how ‘hundreds of conservation areas mark their 50th anniversary’ in 2019, as it will continue to make the Big Conservation Conversation one of our main themes for the year.
Ian Harvey writes:
2019 will see hundreds of conservation areas mark their 50th anniversary and Civic Voice will continue to make the Big Conservation Conversation one of our main themes for the year. We have a whole host of events lined up for the campaign which including running England’s Favourite Conservation Area for a second year.
This will also be the theme for next year’s National Civic Day as we see ‘conservation areas in action’, taking place on 22nd June 2019. Get involved here.
Civic action in conservation areas is absolutely key to the future of the historic environment. Get National Civic Day 2019 in the diary.
We plan to continue being an ever present voice for the movement in Parliament through our All Party Parliamentary Group for Civic Societies events. We have three events in the pipeline with the first event taking place on 25th February, debating the ‘The future of high street conservation areas’. With over 70 at risk conservation areas being high streets themselves, we will be considering how the historic environment can be a catalyst to the future of our high streets. Our supporters and members will always be the first ones to know about future events.
The Civic Voice Design Awards will continue to grow and put communities at the heart of development, but in 2019, we want to spread the lessons from the Awards and use them to inform the Government’s Building Better, Building Beautiful Commission.
We need ideas of how greater community consent can be achieved for new developments
What is high quality design? What is beautiful? How do we define beauty in the built environment?
We have a series of events and conferences planned and we will be announcing them at the start of 2019! Thank you to all who have donated to our Building Better, Building Beautiful fundraising campaign, thanks to your generous support, we are well on our way towards our £5k target!
The only way Civic Voice can carry out all of this great work is through the continued support of our members. Civic societies, community groups and committed volunteers provide the platform for us to continue giving the civic movement a national voice. We want anyone who cares about where they live to join us...
