Whaleback Planning & Design is seeking to appoint an experienced and proactive Senior Heritage Consultant to further develop our reputation for excellence in the sensitive historic and landscape contexts of the South East.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, growing company and to take a lead in further developing our diverse heritage workload. You will work in a close-knit planning and heritage team on a range of development projects of varying scales and types, from householder extensions to strategies for country estates and urban extensions, and from conservation and traditional restoration to innovative contemporary design in conservation areas.

Our current employees are thoroughly grounded in the planning and heritage context of the area, with a particular focus on Hampshire, Surrey, West and East Sussex. We are recognised as a leading planning consultancy and have built strong working relationships with architects, landscape architects and planning officers, who recognise our skill in bridging planning and design disciplines.

Our work is based on rigorous research and analysis of the historic and wider planning context, helping clients and their designers to identify opportunities from constraints. We are driven by the desire to solve problems and deliver solutions that not only fulfil the project objectives but deliver outstanding development in our area.

We particularly welcome applicants with experience of working in protected landscapes, given that much of our work is within the South Downs National Park and surrounding AONBs. Applications are encouraged by those with experience of having worked as a local authority Conservation Officer. The successful applicant will be Full Member of the IHBC or close to achieving full membership.
