The borough contains an important range of listed buildings and structures including Chester’s rich historical heritage and architecture.

You will be an experienced Conservation Officer who can provide creative, innovative, and balanced historic environment planning advice working within a multi-disciplinary team.

You will take a pragmatic approach towards the historic environment, be open to new ideas, help problem solve, whilst safeguarding what matters. You will be committed to continuous improvement and actively seeking opportunities in a changing organisation, motivating others to do the same.

You will work to ensure effective management of the built heritage through project and partnership work and policy development. You’ll also recommend appropriate survey and recording techniques, produce briefs, funding bids, monitor contracts and provide guidance on current legislation.

Contributing to realising our ongoing commercial success and aspiration for growth you will have the opportunity to expand on areas of income generation for the team.

Ideally, you should have a relevant degree in a related subject and have post qualification experience in built heritage related development management work. You will need to demonstrate a sound working knowledge of historic building design and construction, recording and survey techniques, as well as knowledge of relevant legislation and planning policy guidance.

Strong negotiating, interpersonal and presentation skills and an ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary partnership environment are essential.
