About the role and our team
Would you love to live somewhere with one of the richest and most unspoilt historic environments in the British Isles?
We have an excellent opportunity for a motivated and experienced conservation architect or building surveyor to join the national heritage agency on the Isle of Man!
Within this role, you’ll conserve and repair iconic structures, national monuments and historic buildings. You will deliver building analysis, condition assessments, specification of repairs, conservation and preparation of tenders so your previous practical application experience will help you succeed in this role. This will involve a full range of projects, from large restorations to small active and reactive maintenance work.
Based at the Manx Museum, you’ll be part of a small, multi-skilled properties team caring for a diverse portfolio of properties and land held in Trust for the residents of the Isle of Man.
As a charity which benefits from generous financial support from the Isle of Man Government, we are able to confidently plan ahead but ensure we deploy our resources efficiently. You will have a crucial role in informing, developing and guiding our future planned maintenance and conservation strategy as well as taking the lead in major capital investments at historic properties.
Your experience and skills will help you lead and take the initiative in ensuring Manx National Heritage’s buildings and assets are maintained to the highest standards.
If you’ve got a passion for heritage and would like to work in a stunning location, then this could be the role for you!
What can this role offer me?
The island has UNESCO biosphere status which reinforces the Isle of Man Government’s promise that we are a special place to live, work and visit!
In a changing and challenging environment, you’ll need to keep up with current and upcoming issues in your field. We will support you through attending education and training events whilst encouraging you to network with related organisations on and off Island. Support for relevant formal qualifications will also be available.
The Isle of Man has been praised for its effective response to the global pandemic. Currently, due to the lack of cases in the community, people on the Island are enjoying a life free of social distancing regulations.
If working flexibly is important to you, you’ll be happy to know we operate a flexi-time system making it easier to reclaim any additional hours worked and to fit your other commitments around your work life.
About the Island and relocating
Here you can enjoy a fantastic quality of life, and an excellent work-life balance! There are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities; so if you like walking, mountain biking, sailing or kayaking, you’ll have lots of places to explore!
There are also lots of great cafes, bars and restaurants, and you can enjoy the Islands’ real sense of community. The island is well connected to the UK, and you’ll also benefit from low income tax rates (20% maximum rate).
If you are relocating or returning to the Island, you can also benefit from the Insurance Holiday Scheme, which allows you to apply for a refund on your NI contributions for your 1st year of living here.
