Cheshire West and Chester Council brings a fresh and energetic approach to providing top quality services for its many customers and communities. The borough contains a nationally and internationally significant collection of listed buildings and historic settings including Chester’s rich architectural heritage.

We are seeking experienced Conservation professionals who can provide creative, innovative, and balanced historic environment planning advice working within a multi-disciplinary team.

A pragmatic approach towards the historic environment is essential, being open to new ideas, helping to problem solve, whilst safeguarding what matters. You will be committed to continuous improvement and actively seeking opportunities in a changing organisation, motivating others to do the same.

You will work to ensure effective management of the borough’s built heritage through project and partnership work whilst contributing to policy development. You’ll also recommend appropriate survey and recording techniques, prepare briefs, funding bids, monitor contracts and provide guidance on current legislation.

The development of commercial activity and income generation is key to the team’s aspiration for growth and your contribution to realising this goal will be crucial.

Ideally, you should have a relevant degree in a related subject and have post qualification experience in built conservation related development planning work. You will need to demonstrate a sound working knowledge of historic building design and construction, recording and survey techniques, as well as knowledge of relevant legislation and national planning policy guidance.

Strong negotiating, interpersonal and presentation skills and an ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment are essential.
