You will have experience and knowledge of the historic environment. Somerset West and Taunton has over 2300 listed buildings, the Blackdown Hills and Quantock AONB’s, 50 conservation areas, the West Somerset coastline, a rich and varied architectural history and an outstanding historic environment. Therefore you will need to be able to deal with a wide range of historic issues.
You will have a degree in town planning or another relevant subject, a post-graduate qualification in historic building conservation, and be eligible for full membership of the IHBC or RTPI.
You will have excellent communication skills, together with a sound understanding of building conservation issues, and demonstrable experience of the planning process. You will need to be enthusiastic and a team player.
Purpose of the role
To work with the Principal Planning Specialist:
- Providing advice on development proposals impacting on the historic environment
- Produce assessments and recommendations on planning and listed building applications
- Advise members of the public on building conservation issues
