A unique opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, forward thinking and experienced conservation professional to take the lead in protecting and promoting the Borough’s historic environment.

A new Local Plan is emerging which will continue to promote an ambitious policy agenda for our communities. Wokingham Council has big plans for growth, including a range of strategic sites across the borough, together with the investment and development of key locations in our town and village centres. There will be opportunities for involvement in all of these areas of work in this post.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing independent, expert advice to the development management service, and other areas of the Council as necessary, with regard to the implications of development and other proposals for change on all heritage assets (conservation advice) and on the existing and developing public realm of the borough (urban design advice);
  • Providing advice and input into planning appeal and enforcement processes as appropriate, including the provision of statements and the preparation and presentation of expert evidence at informal hearings, public inquiries and in court;
  • Providing advice and planning policy input with regard to the implications on the historic environment of the emerging local plan and the allocation of sites for development within the borough;
  • Delivering a programme of proactive work which includes: the review and production of Conservation Area Appraisals; the delivery, monitoring and updating of a Heritage at Risk Register; and the production, monitoring and updating of generic guidance on the historic environment.
