Section: Planning Services
Responsible To: Principal Planning Officer (Major Projects)
Heritage-led regeneration is integral to the wider growth programme for Gainsborough. It is acknowledged that a vibrant and attractive town centre will contribute to encouraging a diverse range of households, including wealth creators, to move to the town. In order for the town centre to thrive, the historic environment – Gainsborough’s Unique Selling Point – must be valued and actively supported by the Council.
Illustrating the Council’s commitment to this agenda, the Council has secured stage 1 approval for a potential £1.8m Townscape Heritage (TH) scheme for Gainsborough. A range of complementary initiatives are being delivered alongside this – Shopfront Improvement Scheme, Market Street Renewal Ltd (MSRL).
Following the early success of heritage-led interventions in Gainsborough (Heritage Masterplan, Shop-Fronts, MSRL, TH stage 1 bid, commitment from Historic England), a dedicated Conservation Officer resource is now needed to ensure the continued, successful delivery of the restoration programme in Gainsborough, and also in our smaller Market Towns.
Applicants will be subject to a Basic Disclosure Scotland check. The post holder will require Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) accredited post-graduate diploma or degree in building conservation (or equivalent).
