Epping Forest District is an area of contrasts, from its southern boundary with Greater London stretching northwards into the heart of rural Essex.  Here you’ll find scope to further your career in a variety of different roles, each offering the rewards you’d expect from an organisation that values its employees.

The Heritage Conservation Team is a vital part of the Development Control Section and has a high profile within the Council with a busy and varied work load dealing with listed buildings, conservation areas and other heritage assets within the District.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Conservation Officer to run the Heritage Conservation Team. The team currently consists of a Senior Conservation Officer and a Conservation Officer and has a busy workload dealing with a District benefiting from a rich pool of heritage assets including over 1300 listed buildings, 25 conservation areas, 35 scheduled monuments, and over 300 locally listed buildings ranging from medieval market towns to Victorian suburbs, and from country house estates to former Royal Gunpowder Mills. The District is varied in character and stretches from the urban outskirts of London, served by the Central Line, to the rural landscape of Essex in the north.

The prospective post holder will need good standards of literacy, numeracy and office skills. A qualification in built heritage conservation or related discipline is essential, and education to degree level is desirable. A strong working knowledge of building history, construction and materials, and conservation principles, policy and legislation are vital, and membership of the IHBC essential. Most of all we are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and customer focused in order to keep pace with our high standards within the section and the Council.

You will show self-motivation and an ability to communicate effectively in writing and in person, a commitment to providing a quality service and an ability to utilise IT equipment. You will have a full UK driving licence. In return, an opportunity to gain considerable experience through a varied workload will be offered, in offices located in an attractive market town and within an authority committed to staff development.

Closing date: 23 August 18
