Bedford Borough features a wealth of rural villages set around the urban areas of Bedford and Kempston. The rural areas are characterized by timber framed and stone buildings, many with thatched roofs, whilst the urban areas have a rich variety of late 18th and 19th century buildings. The Council has a strong commitment to the protection of its 27 conservation areas and 1400 listed buildings. We are seeking to recruit a full time Conservation Officer to provide specialist advice on conservation areas, historic buildings and general design issues to inform and improve the development management process. The work will also involve conservation area appraisal and policy development.
