Permanent, Part Time Position (18.5 hrs p/w)

Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017, standing proud as the largest national park in England and with more than 18 million visitors every year, the Lake District National Park is loved all over the world.

Within our historic environment team we have an excellent opportunity for a creative, enthusiastic and inspiring individual to assist with the management, protection, recording and interpretation of the built heritage of the Lake District National Park.

We’re looking for someone to take forward conservation area enhancements, managing the conservation area appraisal and management plan process whilst working with consultants to deliver them. Experience of project management will help you succeed in this role.  An understanding of planning legislation, in order to comment on our planning policies is also necessary. Membership of IHBC and/or Institute of Field Archaeologists is desirable.

The post holder will also work closely with the Lead Strategy Adviser: Historic Environment, assisting in our work to conserve traditional farm buildings and reducing the number of Listed Buildings on the Heritage at Risk register. In addition, using your existing skills to help organise conservation work, develop projects and external funding bids to conserve, record and interpret the built heritage will be advantage in this role. Knowledge of Local Lists and their practical implementation would be beneficial for our work to establish a local list of significant heritage assets.

We run the Lake District Archaeology Network, a network of 70 amazing volunteers who undertake archaeological work across the National Park, including surveys, conservation work and research. Helping to maintain the Network, broadening its area of research to include the built environment and undertaking outreach work with our committed and informed volunteers will be an enjoyable and essential element of this post. Experience in delivering outreach, working with volunteers and the public and using social media will be welcome as we wish to build on recent initiatives and projects.
