Post number: PF03 – Vacancy number: 2018028

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic and self-motivated Conservation expert(s) to join our team to work on a broad range of projects with regard to listed buildings, conservation areas and encouraging new design of the highest quality.

You will be required to have a degree or other recognised qualification in one or more of the appropriate disciplines, including historic building conservation, design, architecture or planning. If a planning degree is your sole qualification, we would expect your course content to have had a significant element in one of the above design disciplines.

You will have experience of working with listed buildings and conservation areas and the practical conservation of the historic environment.

Your duties will include:

  • Delivering an effective and efficient heritage & conservation service;
  • Preparation and review of Conservation Area Appraisals and management plans;
  • Responding to planning application consultations;
  • Providing timely, expert and impartial advice to other departments of the Council,
    agencies, developers, councillors and the general public;
  • Processing a caseload of listed building applications;
  • Playing a key role in the delivery of heritage led regeneration projects.

With 51 Conservation Areas and approximately 2500 listed buildings in the district we are looking for an individual with the ability to identify acceptable change within the historic environment whilst protecting the heritage assets of Mid Devon.

You will have effective time management and communication skills and be
committed to providing a customer focussed service.

For this post a planning related qualification or membership of the Institute of
Historic Building Conservation would be advantageous.
