In order to preserve and enhance a traditional or historic property the visual characteristics of new or replacement rooflights should closely match the original cast-iron ones. In addition modern standards of insulation and weather tightness must be provided. Often modern conservation-style rooflights meet performance criteria, but most fail to match the details of the original cast-iron models due to their broad sections, aluminium fronting and mock glazing bars.
