THE HISTORIC BUILDINGS COMPANY: SUCCESSORTO THE HISTORIC BUILDINGS BUREAU Brian and Judy Leadsom of Chobham in Surrey have taken over where the Historic Buildings Bureau of the DoE left off. Their 70 page A4 size volume - the 'Yellow Pages' of the property worldshows a picture, description, and price for some 200 historic buildings which are for sale. It is published monthly 11 times a year under the title 'Period Property Register', and is sold by subscription at £15 for six issues. A quarter page property advertisement, the usual format, costs £35 per insertion. Interestingly, buildings are listed by age rather than by location. The Historic Buildings Company also "brings together the talents of professional people interested and know4 ledgeable in the problems of old buildings. We survey them, date them and value them; and we manage their alteration, restoration and repair." The Historic Buildings Company has written to us to say that it hopes we will be able to suggest to vendors and purchasers - including local authorities and building preservation trusts -that they use the services of the Register to advertise their properties or search for acquisitions. He knows this not to be comprehensive and would therefore welcome further information, He hopes the Civic Trust may be able to publish a list eventually as a supplement to its Environmental Directory.
