(Year 6 pupil) The project made the children of Great Wood Primary School really look at their High Street and think about it. The fact that the project was about a real life issue helped them to focus and they felt that their opinions were valued. Since the project started a local church-based working group has been formed to actively seek a future use for the mill. The head teacher sees the children as the messengers and hopes that they will act as catalysts to motivate their parents or themselves to be active in determining the future of Upper Tean High Street and mill. This case study will form a regional and national model to assist all primary schools in the promotion of children's social and cultural development. It will begin to inform young people's perception and vision of their local historic environment and the role they might play in its future.
