My approach to heritage is rooted in giving back to society. Alongside my professional practice, I am committed to education and research, having lectured at the Universities of Mumbai, Lincoln, Manchester and York. Recognised with two Unesco Asia-Pacific Cultural Conservation Awards, I also lead the heritage and gender task team for ICOMOS International, serve as a trustee and editorial chair for ICOMOS UK, and am a member of the York Unesco steering group. I hold the role of vice-president for the Europe Region of the International Scientific Committee on Water and Heritage. At this stage in my career, joining the IHBC is a natural step—a formal recognition of my expertise and a chance to deepen my engagement with best practice, policy and sustainable conservation strategies. More than that, I see the IHBC as a platform for exchanging ideas, addressing challenges and shaping the future of heritage. I look forward to contributing to this collective mission, ensuring that our historic environment continues to inspire, evolve and endure. Saranya Dharshini is a new full member of the IHBC.
