Context 181 - September 2024

CONTEXT 181 : SEPTEMBER 2024 49 Welcome to new members The following members were voted in at the May 2024 IHBC trustees meeting. Welcome to you all. Connecticut. The use of marble to manipulate light, the interplay between such robust components and the carefully managed climatic conditions internally, and the books as object and sculpture are a work of art themselves. Your favourite place? Home. Your favourite book? I am an avid reader, and not of any particular genre or subject, so I am not sure if I have one favourite. It depends utterly on my mood, location or if I need to transport myself somewhere entirely different. The closest I could get is probably something by Daphne du Maurier, or to be transported back to my childhood with Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery. What do you do in your spare time? With two young daughters, I do not have a tremendous amount of spare time, but when I do, getting out into the garden is incredibly restorative and I always try to make time every day to do a workout. What organisations are you a member of? I used to belong to many but as my role has changed these are dwindling. Currently the IHBC and AABC (Architects Accredited in Building Conservation), although I suspect the latter will have to drop off too at the next renewal as I resign from the ARB (Architects Registration Board). Which one issue would you particularly like the IHBC to campaign on? Sandi Rhys Jones during her tenure as president of the CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building) made great inroads on demanding more progress rather than just discussion on women in property. This issue has a long way to go. Aimée Felton is director of estates and conservation at the Charterhouse.
