C O N T E X T 1 6 9 : S E P T E M B E R 2 0 2 1 3 Portsoy bequest Businessman Tom Burnett-Stuart has left historic listed buildings at Portsoy harbour, Aberdeenshire, to the North East Preservation Trust in his will. The buildings are the category A-listed Marble Warehouse, designed by John Adam; the B-listed Marble Workshop; the C-listed Granary Building; and the C-listed Rag Warehouse. The bequest also includes several cottages and a sum of money to be used to protect the architectural integrity of the harbour. Still objecting at Mold The Twentieth Century Society has objected to revised plans to alter and extend the Grade II-listed Theatr Clwyd in Mold,Wales. It claims that the changes by architect Haworth Tompkins will cause substantial harm to the post-war building, and that it could be refurbished to ensure continued use without such major interventions. The society objected to a 2019 scheme to extend and refurbish the theatre, and is still opposed to the revised plans. Its chief concern is the proposal to redesign the entrance and foyer, change the building’s overall massing and remove its original windows. The theatre was designed by Flintshire County Architect RW Harvey and constructed between 1969 and 1976. Learning on the job Masonry repairs to a church in the Wye Valley are being used as a vehicle for training. St Saviour’s Church, Redbrook, just south of Monmouth, listed Grade II, was designed by JP Seddon and built in 1873. It has suffered severely from masonry decay and is on the buildings-at-risk register. The work will take place over several years and will start the process of repairing the defective masonry.Workshops will be held on the analysis, making and use of lime mortars and practical work concentrates on mortar repairs and repointing. In future years it is likely to include stone carving and replacement.
