Following consultation on the business case for a revision of BS 7913: 1998 (Guide to the principles of the conservation of historic buildings), led by Henry Russell IHBC, it has been agreed the revision should progress, while John Edwards IHBC, of English Heritage, will chair the task group.
The consultation has highlighted the opportunity for the review of BS 7913 to give it a very necessary update.
Julian Bagg, Co-ordinator of the IHBC’s Technical Panel, said: ‘On behalf of my colleagues in the IHBC, I’m delighted to welcome the decision to progress the review and update of BS 7913.’
‘This is a hugely important professional standard for our membership, and our sector, and a great opportunity for the IHBC and its members to contribute to the process. In light of that I’m especially delighted to be able to represent the Institute on the drafting panel, and look forward to contributing to an updated standard that will be fit for application in the built environment of the 21st century.’
There is also an opportunity to hear John Edwards discuss the role of English Heritage in BSI and European Standards in his paper at the forthcoming CIOB joint conference in York, on 19-20 May, supported by the National Trust and the IHBC.
