Cadw research update on preservation of listed buildings in disrepair

CADW Preservation Notice Report 2018Cadw has published research on how the Historic Environment (Wales) Act 2016 can allow Welsh Ministers make regulations to give local authorities new powers to issue ‘preservation notices’, with the report outlining several options.

Cadw writes:

Local authorities already have a range of statutory powers to deal with deteriorating listed buildings, so any provision for preservation notices will have to be carefully formulated to make a practical and useful addition to the existing measures.

Research was specially commissioned to inform the development of preservation notices, and the final report can now be downloaded from the Cadw website.

The report outlines several options for preservation notices. It also identifies a range of positive, non-legislative changes that would support local planning authorities in the exercise of their current powers. Consideration is now being given to its recommendations
