Cadw has published research on how the Historic Environment (Wales) Act 2016 can allow Welsh Ministers make regulations to give local authorities new powers to issue ‘preservation notices’, with the report outlining several options.
Local authorities already have a range of statutory powers to deal with deteriorating listed buildings, so any provision for preservation notices will have to be carefully formulated to make a practical and useful addition to the existing measures.
Research was specially commissioned to inform the development of preservation notices, and the final report can now be downloaded from the Cadw website.
