Icon’s Trustees would like to thank our many partners and stakeholders who have engaged with us in developing this strategy. We are looking forward to working with you to deliver key areas of activity, to build the resilience of the cultural heritage sector, and to respond to the challenges and changes that the next few years may bring.
The strategy has also been honed through consultation with our members who have overwhelmingly endorsed and supported the aims and who will be key to delivering the actions that will make our collective aspirations a reality. This strategy strongly emphasises the outward-facing, advocacy and influencing role of our organisation. We will work in partnership to ensure that the voice of the conservation profession is heard in concert with others.
The strategy is also very strong on support for raising standards in the care of cultural heritage. This includes promoting the value of high-quality conservation with our partners and the public, and also supporting our members to learn at all stages of their development and to share their skills and knowledge with others, including allied professionals, trainees and volunteers.
The third strand is around broadening engagement in conservation on the part of a wider cross-section of society, developing new routes into the profession as well as attracting new members, supporters and friends. We will need your help to reach out to these new audiences and together to promote the benefits that caring for our past can make to people.
