With an exceptional built and natural environment, Tewkesbury Borough contains a rich diversity of areas including large parts of the Cotswold A.O.N.B and Severn Vale, 14 conservation areas, some 1800 listed assets and the historic market towns of Tewkesbury and Winchcombe. Tewkesbury itself is of course famous for its Norman Abbey and its pivotal role in the War of the Roses.
Along with this stunning environment and rich history there is huge development pressure. Tewkesbury Borough is at the heart of the M5 economic growth corridor and is preparing to manage up to 40% of Gloucestershire’s entire growth through the recently adopted Joint Core Strategy developed with our neighbours at Gloucester and Cheltenham.
We are looking for a highly motivated and imaginative conservation specialist to help balance the exciting growth agenda and the need to conserve and enhance the historic environment. You will be the Council’s conservation advisor and play a key role in promoting and encouraging high standards in the development and conservation of the historic environment throughout the borough through the development management and forward planning processes. You will also play a big part in helping deliver key regeneration projects in Tewkesbury Town.
You will be a passionate advocate for heritage with the ability to identify conservation opportunities that arise from the ambitious growth agenda within the Borough. You will be a strong and persuasive negotiator whilst being able to meet the highest customer service standards. You will also have an ability to build excellent working relationships with heritage groups, consultees, colleagues, elected members, partners and local communities.
Come and make a real difference, helping us to deliver a first class environment with strong communities for our residents, businesses and visitors.
For an informal discussion about the role please contact Paul Skelton, Development Manager, on 01684 272102.
