St Albans is a unique English Cathedral City with a colourful history which can be seen in the Roman remains and variety of beautiful architecture, heritage sites and conservation areas. Set within green belt, off the M25, A1M and M1, the District includes a cathedral, historic city centre and charming villages. Our refurbished offices are in the city centre near to the station (London St Pancras 20 minutes), shops and restaurants. In short, it is a great place to live and work.

Working in a small planning policy and design team, you will provide specialist design and conservation advice on development management cases for listed buildings, locally listed buildings and infill development or redevelopment in conservation areas.

You will take on active casework on conservation issues, including buildings at risk and enforcement cases. You will also prepare and provide regular updates of conservation area character appraisals and statements. Planning policy preparation for local plans and development briefs, and provision of informal promotional and advice work on built environment conservation, is also required for this post.

We are looking for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic built environment professional with qualifications and experience in conservation and design. Expertise in practical building conservation issues and techniques would be an advantage.

You will be educated to degree level, or equivalent, in a related subject and have previous experience of urban design and conservation and specialist aspects of Planning.

We offer a competitive package which also includes: up to 26 days annual leave (depending on length of service), pension scheme, reimbursement of professional fees, comprehensive, management development and training, flexible working options (including working from home) and leisure and travel discounts.

*Inclusive salary from £31,370 – £35,123 per annum plus up to 18.5% employer pension contribution.
