As the public body that champions England’s historic environment we help people understand value and care for a diverse range of historic places from prehistoric monuments to modern buildings. The Heritage Information Partnerships team assists creation of improved access to historic environment information by providing development support to the national network of locally held Historic Environment Records (HERs).
Working closely with the team around you and other experts, you will ensure that the national programme of HER audits delivers consistent and effective support assisting HERs to take stock and develop individual action plans within a framework of continuous improvement. Each day will be different and may involve problem-solving and response to enquiries by phone and email, supply of expert advice and guidance, report writing, the gathering and analysis of statistical and other information about HERs, assistance to data providers joining the Heritage Gateway, attendance at national or regional meetings, or travel to visit individual HERs.
With experience of working with, or for, HERs you will be passionate about their future development and have a good understanding of the current issues that impact HERs both at a national and local level. You feel comfortable with the pace of technological development and relish an opportunity to develop your expertise in this area. As an excellent communicator, you enjoy building effective working relationships with a wide range of people and will be proactive in seeking ways to ensure that we and our partners deliver consistent approaches to local authority engagement. You will be particularly keen to research and maintain a national picture of HERs and to share this information with colleagues and stakeholders, building HIPs’ reputation as a source of reliable and consistent expert advice. Naturally organised and self-motivated, you will use your curiosity to work through difficult problems and have the ability to manage, prioritise and take responsibility for a range of concurrent tasks and projects.
Joining us you will continue your own development, working alongside colleagues that believe continuously developing their expertise is central to their success. We can also offer a wide benefits package including a competitive pension scheme, 28 days holiday, corporate discounts and free entry into English Heritage sites, as well as the flexibility in your working day that creates a strong work-life balance.
