The Design and Conservation Team leads on securing high quality design and a long lasting legacy for development at Cherwell and South Northamptonshire. We are currently looking to recruit two Senior Conservation Officers to the team. The successful candidates will sit within a friendly and dynamic team with a total of six conservation officers. We are a joint team, shared between two councils; however the majority of day to day work will be based at either Bodicote near Banbury (for the CDC position) or Towcester (for the SNC position).
The roles are varied, providing expert heritage advice on listed building and planning applications, as well as the production of conservation area appraisals and best practice guidance. The heritage agenda is valued by elected Members and the planning teams at both councils. While both areas are predominantly rural, with a significant number of conservation areas and traditional listed buildings, the posts also offer an opportunity to play an active role in the protection of a diverse range of heritage assets, including industrial heritage and 20th century military bases.
For both positions you will bring significant experience in the development management of listed buildings and conservation areas. You should have a post graduate qualification in Building Conservation and ideally be a full member of the IHBC. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required and an ability to communicate through simple sketches would be an advantage. Importantly, you should be enthusiastic and self-motivated who values being a positive member of the team.
- Flexible working, generous annual leave, childcare voucher scheme and Local Government Pension.
