Historic England`s national expertise is locally delivered through a network of regional teams advising on over 20,000 statutory applications for change every year. These vacancies are a chance to join the friendly and high-performing team based at 195-205 High Street, in historic Guildford, but with frequent travel required to diverse historic sites across South East England.

As key members of the Development Management Team, the Assistant Inspectors of Historic Buildings and Areas will use their knowledge of historic buildings, areas and designed landscapes to provide advice in response to pre-application and formal consultations for listed building consent and planning permission across the fascinating historic environment of South East England.

The successful candidates will be flexible and enthusiastic to use Historic England`s ethos of Constructive Conservation to help manage change to the most significant heritage assets in the South East. You will need to demonstrate understanding and experience of the range of assets found in the South East and evidence of dealing positively with a range of stakeholders. You will need to have strong communication skills and be able to be a pro-active team player with good interpersonal skills.

Assistant Inspector of Historic Buildings and Areas (maternity cover)
This is a post available as a result of a need to provide maternity cover. It is a full time post and available for a minimum period of 9 months starting in June 2017.

It is possible that the post could suit someone looking to gain experience of working in this role at Historic England and opportunities for secondment will be considered (candidates already working for Historic England should discuss this with their line manager before applying).
